Trainer Cheryl Coppa with the secret on how to maintain long-term health and fitness at this point in your life.
By Cheryl Coppa
It’s the biggest struggle when it comes to fitness, right? Maintaining the drive and desire to keep at it regardless of life’s ever-changing circumstances.
So many women have a case of seasonal fitness. They start and then stop, and it's just a vicious cycle. It’s no wonder why these women don’t feel and see the results of the others around them.
What are we Doing in Ola Ka Ola That is Different to Make it Possible and Enjoyable to Stick With Fitness Long Term?
In our group of members, most of the women that join us stick with it and love it. This is the difference in succeeding in your health and fitness goals.
So How Can This Be YOU?
Long-term is key, consistency is key. Just like brushing your teeth or saying your prayers. If you only did it once a week, or for a month and then stopped for 3 months, you can imagine your teeth and entire mouth health would decline and your spiritual health would be lacking and not strong.
It’s the same thing with fitness. You can’t expect to feel and look amazing if your efforts are far and few in between or only seasonal.
The social media influencers add to this confusion. They will promote 30-day workouts to your summer body. Know this, most of what you see as advertised is NOT what they themselves are doing to get fit. It takes time to lose fat, it takes time to build muscle and strong bones, and once you DO achieve those goals, you have to maintain them.
Especially as women, we are losing muscle each year and storing fat more easily. The time we wait really is the time we lose. The ONLY way to combat this is to train! Train specifically for YOUR body at this stage in your life. This is not Boot camps, it's not doing a bunch of burpees, this is not hours of training or exercise! Exercising that way would actually be counter-productive for this stage in life. You want to be consistent, yes! But that doesn’t mean spending hours on your fitness. It means 30 minutes to 20 minutes a day a few times a week. (going for a walk, is not what I’m talking about. Read my previous blog about it here) You are not sacrificing your time and you are not wasting your effort.
“Train specifically for YOUR body at this stage in your life. This is not Boot camps, it's not doing a bunch of burpees, this is not hours of training or exercise! Exercising that way would actually be counter-productive for this stage in life.” Trainer Cheryl Coppa
Let’s face it, at this point in life (the ’40s, 50’s, 60’s, and beyond) we are not training for the summer body, we are training for LIFE!
✔️ We are training so that we can continue to care for our families and ourselves.
✔️ We are training that we can care for ourselves as long as possible, and not have to be in a nursing home or rely on our loved ones to care for us.
✔️ We are training to replace the muscle we are losing.
✔️ We are training for bone density, so we don’t break our bones.
✔️ We are training for balance to avoid falls in the first place.
✔️ We are training for flexibility to move with ease and be pain-free.
✔️ We are training to have a functional core and pelvic floor with no leaks no back pain and keep our sexual intimacy pleasurable.
✔️ We are training for LONGEVITY, for LIFE!
This is what WE DO at Ola Ka Ola. You can let go of false, far-off goals and train for your LIFE. By doing so, you will easily find joy and results in what you are doing. Then, guess what? because you have stuck with it for so long, you will start to see the physical results.
You will see the shape of your body change, you will see that muscle definition. All this because you shift your focus to training for LIFE and you keep with it because you stay focused on how the training makes you feel, rather than the scale and body measurements in the beginning.
“Ola Ka Ola is run by women just like you. We are all WOMEN in our 40s, 50s and 60s. What we offer, we practice ourselves, together with you.”, Trainer Cheryl Coppa
We also train you at your level, and you can go at your own pace.
There’s a Plan for Everyone
👉🏽 If you have never trained before, there is a plan for you.
👉🏽 If you have experience, there is a plan for you.
Also, important to note, the plan changes but it never stops. You experience a busy season because life is life, (Ola Ka Ola means “Life goes on”) guess what, you don’t stop! The perfect time is NOW, does life ever slow down? Not really. We just adjust your schedule as you need.
👉🏽 Maybe you need to shift to no equipment, 20-minute training a couple of times a week to maintain where you are. Then that’s what we do. We have plans for every scenario, why? Because we are in the same boat!
Ola Ka Ola is also run by women just like you! We are all WOMEN in our 40’s, 50's and 60's. What we offer, we practice ourselves, together with you! Our lives are busy, we work, we have kids and grandkids, we experience illness, we experience tragedy, we experience relocation, long-distance moves, and we experience job changes, but we will continue to show up with you. In all seasons we still need to take care of ourselves, which gives us the strength to care for our loved ones. This is the solution that STICKS! This is the solution that makes it possible, affordable, and ENJOYABLE for midlife women and beyond to THRIVE and live their best life.
A Commonly Believed Fitness Myth: I Can Only Do In-Person Training
A common misconception is “I need that in-person training“. Now, let me ask you, do you really? Or is this just an easy excuse? Isn’t this going to cost you MORE time and MORE money and give you LESS sessions with your trainer? Any kind of change in your thinking or actions is scary, so your mind will come up with various excuses to keep you in your comfort zone. I do understand this fear\excuse because I had the same one myself. At the beginning of my fitness journey, I would attend classes at the gym. My instructor was encouraging me to take the training at home so I could do more than just the class schedule at the gym. I didn’t think I could do it. It seemed crazy to me, how could I do that? How could I stay motivated and show up for myself if I have to do it at home? Oh my gosh and there it is right …. “Show up for myself “ How can I put my health, my confidence in someone else’s hands? It was and always will be my own responsibility.
That shift in thinking changed everything.
Change your thinking and change your life! How many things in your life can you not achieve only because you are telling yourself you can not do it? Flip the script! I CAN do this!
Even though I am busy. I can make a 30-minute health deposit.
Because I am stressed, I need to make this 20-minute health and fitness deposit, so I can best manage my situation.
Because I am so stressed, I need to take a 15-minute meditation class to calm my mind and body.
Even though I have no energy, I am going to move my body to create the energy I need and want.
Even though it is summer, I know I need and want to feel good so I can give myself 20- 30 minutes to create that feeling.
Even though I am traveling, I especially need to give myself 30 minutes to move to keep me operating at my best while out of my environment.
With your change of thinking and the support of a community of women just like you, and trainers guiding you the entire way if you wish, you CAN and WILL SUCCEED for LIFE!
Ola Ka Ola has the formula that works, the formula that keeps you feeling amazing, the formula that keeps you going! All that you have to do is open the door and allow this mindset shift to take place.
Take the pressure off yourself and just allow this to happen! Your tribe awaits. I look forward to chatting with you and seeing you in class because summer is a great time to feel amazing!
Yours,
Cheryl
